Though long a well-regarded writer of nonfiction, David Stein had never committed fiction publicly before, only written out some personal fantasies for the drawer, when he surprised himself by giving birth to a short story he felt was good enough to share. Every friend who read it encouraged his perversion by asking, “So what happens next?” More than ten years and a quarter-million words later, Carried Away: An S/M Romance was finished. Several excerpts had made their way into Drummer magazine during its long gestation, and “When can I read the whole thing?” became the question dinned into his ears. To his pleased surprise, Daedalus Publications just then relaunched as a division of The Stockroom, a major supplier of kinky toys and gear, agreed to publish the novel. It was released at the end of May 2002 and made its debut at International Mr. Leather that year. It’s been in print continuously ever since.

Subsequently, David produced a few other short stories that appeared in magazines like Drummer, International Leatherman, and PowerPlay as well as in Laura Antoniou’s “novelogy” The Academy. In 2009 he collected these along with several new stories in Boots, Bondage, and Beatings, which he self-published under his own Perfectbound Press imprint with original illustrations by Axel. That same year saw the publication of his book of profiles of real-life gay Masters and slaves, Ask the Man Who Owns Him, which won the 2010 Geoff Mains Award for nonfiction from the National Leather Association–International. Collections of erotic stories by Thom Magister (The Slave Journals and Other Tales of the Old Guard) and Christopher Pierce (Winner Takes All) followed, and both of those are available as ebooks as well as paperbacks. More BDSM books from Perfectbound Press are in the works, both fiction and nonfiction.

Laura Antoniou is the author of the best selling Marketplace series of BDSM novels, about a realistic, modern day slave training world. In addition to writing a ton of other erotic material, she has edited over a dozen anthologies and is collecting stories for even more right now. For over twenty years she’s been teaching and ranting at the kinky and alt-sex communities, and her contribution to Tristan Taormino’s The Ultimate Guide to Kink: BDSM, Role Play and the Erotic Edge is a rare example of her non-fiction work. Naturally, it’s all about how to train a slave. She is the two-time winnder winner of the John Preston Award for short fiction from the National Leather Association–International, most recently in 2012 for the story. Laura can be found at lantoniou.com and on Fetlife and Facebook.
